New Zealand’s Bold Vision for Doubling Education Export Value by 2027 and Upcoming Visa Fee Changes

New Zealand has set an ambitious target to double the value of its international education sector to NZ$4.4 billion by 2027. This strategic move aims to significantly enhance the sector’s economic contribution, with plans to expand the number of international students from around 69,000 to 100,000 within the next three years.

Key Highlights:

  • Economic Growth Target: New Zealand plans to increase the international education sector’s contribution from NZ$2.2 billion in 2023 to NZ$4.4 billion by 2027.
  • Investment Focus: The country will target emerging markets such as India, Vietnam, and the Philippines while maintaining a strong focus on traditional markets like China and India.
  • Student Satisfaction: Recent surveys show that 86% of international students are satisfied with their experience in New Zealand, with 41% rating it as “excellent.”
  • Strategic Branding: New marketing strategies will emphasize New Zealand’s expertise in key sectors such as agri-food systems, aerospace technology, and renewable energy.

Strategic Investments and Market Expansion

Education New Zealand (ENZ) is committed to increasing its international student base through targeted investments and strategic marketing initiatives. By expanding its reach into key growth markets and reinforcing its presence in established markets, New Zealand aims to build strong awareness and attract more students.

Student Feedback and Experience

The latest International Student Experience Survey indicates high levels of satisfaction among international students in New Zealand, particularly regarding the connections and relationships they form. This positive feedback is expected to bolster the country’s efforts to grow its international education sector.

New Marketing and Branding Initiatives

During the recent New Zealand International Education Conference, ENZ introduced a new branding strategy that focuses on areas where New Zealand holds global expertise. This includes a pilot phase to test new marketing tools and virtual experiences aimed at engaging prospective students. The refreshed tools, including a mixed reality platform, will be tested through late 2024 to attract students for the 2025 intake.
